Gail Carriger in Retro 1950s eShakti Coral Lace & Much Diminished Rack

My mum hates this dress (mostly because of the color, I think). But I actually rather love it. It's one of the few of my eShakti that made the transition with the Rack Reduction. It has just enough stretch, and the neckline of the lining merely altered a bit.

Since this is a pretty clean line pencil dress you can really tell the difference before and after my surgery! The new photo, on the left, is a mere 2 weeks ago, the one on the right is from about a year and a half. Also, why do hotels have to have such ugly carpets?

"Large showy ornaments, by way of jewellery, are exceedingly ungenteel. They always tell their own story, of glass stones set in gilding, not gold. If you cannot obtain real jewels, never attempt sham ones. It requires no practised eye to detect them—particularly false diamonds."

Purses, Shoes, and Hats ~ Putting Together an Outfit

I'm a creature of vintage habit which means I like things to MATCH, Fashionable Reader.

It's really hard for me to, for example, leave the house with a black bag and brown shoes. Yes, I understand that's it's fine to do so in the modern world, just not for me.

Although it's not totally unheard of in the modern age.

In the old days other things were matched, like dresses and reticules, or mantles and muffs.

"Also, the appearance of the female part of the company is always more elegant, when wearing bandeaus, caps, or other light head-dresses; young persons requiring their hair only, or the slight decoration of a flower or a ribbon."

Although, they didn't always have to match, they did have to coordinate.

Bows bows bows!

I love bows, bows are the best. Hooray for bows.

(Can you tell I'm into embracing my girlie side these days?)

A note: those look to me like they could be for mourning. Except the cameo is different: male on one, female on the other. Pretty unique.

I'm more of a pearl than diamonds girl myself. I've always felt diamonds rather cold, although I suppose they go with everything. Pearls just seem to have more personality.
