I Love Half Length Sleeves from Gail Carriger (Gettign a Retro Look)

I have a real love for half length sleeves, Fashionable Reader. Sadly, they don't seem all the popular in this day an age. I like the ending at the elbow, I think it's super flattering just to show the lower half of the arm. (Apparently so does Joan from Mad Men, or at least her costume designer.)

That said, I didn't realize how addicted I had become to this style until I started combing through my wardrobe. Here is a sample in blue.

Of course, the down side is this style is hard to wear anything over it but a cape.

  1. Amen to that! I find I am always pushing or turning up longer sleeves to a length suitable for working. I guess it's a holdover from my farm girl childhood.

  2. I love these! If they are rather fitted, I prefer 3/4 sleeves myself, but if they are flow or puffy, I adore 1/2 sleeves.

  4. Sweet mama! The SHOES! The ones with the green floral dress! *mwua* (kisses fingers in appreciation).

Also, also a massive fan here of 1/2 and 3/4 length sleeves. Very flattering to the upper arm.

(And is the green dress from any recent purchases...? Help a follower out with a link... pls... ^_^ )

    1. The black with the green roses and the crazy shoes? I've had that one a while now, that picture is from 2012. The dress is a vintage early 1960s I. Magnin that I think I purchased on Height Street from a vintage shop here in San Francisco 2011 or 2010 maybe? Here's a post about it from last year: http://retrorack.blogspot.com/2014/11/green-rose-print-1960s-evening-dress-in.html And here are a few from 2012: http://retrorack.blogspot.com/2012/10/nciba-in-black-green.html and http://retrorack.blogspot.com/2012/07/comic-con-outfits-night-two.html

    2. I really like the Jacques Fath dress. But feel I'm more the Callot Soeurs or Worth type.

  5. I wonder if the sleeve length is so flattering because most people's bodies are proportioned to have the elbow start around the waist, so a sleeve ending there draws attention to the waist, especially when one's clothing is also fitted there. At any rate, it looks great on all of these outfits! (I wear long sleeves in winter because I live in a place where the air hurts any exposed skin, but my preferred style is 3/4. I hate having things about my wrists.)
